First Time in Estonia | 48 Hours in Tallinn
Welcome to Tallinn everybody! This is our first ever experience of Estonia :)
It feels so good to finally be exploring Estonia - we got so close to seeing it this year with our trips to Russia and especially to Finland - so glad we could finally make it work.
We started our day at one of the most beautiful lookouts in Estonia, the Kohtuotsa lookout and the Patkuli viewing platform. From there we walked around the upper level of the walled city before making our way to ROST Bakery for some cinnamon scrolls and hot chocolates.
From there we went to the old town square to see the Christmas markets which are on till the middle of January if you want that European Christmas feel.
That evening we had a super unique medieval dinner at Olde Hansa with traditional meals and music.

Estonia - The Times We Had
The start of July saw my sons and I travel to Estonia for their first ever trip abroad. Estonia is a much-overlooked country but a beautiful one. Its capital Tallinn has only really caught the traveller’s attention in recent years. We were excited to see what we would find in the way of wildlife and wildflowers in a busy city as well as being your typical tourists!
We travelled with my Dad to visit my brother who has lived in Estonia for several years now. It's great to visit a country with a bit of insider knowledge so you can find the best places to eat, and more readily explore off the beaten track without getting too lost.
We stayed in Kalamaja (which translates as 'Fish Houses') on the outskirts of Tallinn, and while there we strolled down cobbled back streets, and along city walls ...

We stayed in Kalamaja (which translates as 'Fish Houses') on the outskirts of Tallinn, and while there we strolled down cobbled back streets, and along city walls and towers like Kiek in de Kok. and went tree, plant, and wildlife spotting in Kadriorg Park. Steven the famous Seagull swooped down to meet us at Toompea viewpoint, and we climbed St Olavs terrifyingly tall Church tower to the viewing platform, which was incredible (despite my fear of heights! – hence the camera shake!)
Lennusadam Seaplane Harbour Museum, Kumu Art Gallery, and the underground art shops in St Catherines Passage gave us our dose of culture along with a trip to the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds which was a must because Drew and Robin wanted to see where the singing revolution took place between 1987-1991 and how Estonia gained its independance. We caught the train to Narva Castle on the Russian border, and climbed trees by the river. We ate in the medieval themed restaurant Olde Hansa, played medieval games and watched historical dancing in old town Tallinn’s city square. We found a beautifully overgrown abandoned garden on our travels too. We had a wild and wonderful adventure.
The music is ‘Kattemaks’ by the Estonian band Curly Strings.

First Time staying in Estonia | 24 Hours in Tallinn | Staycation | Food tour & Christmas market 2023
Welcome to Tallinn everybody! This is our first ever experience staying overnight in Estonia :)
It feels so good to finally be exploring Estonia both day and night. This is my staycation trip after such a long time at work. I decided to book a nice hotel with the main purpose to relax during this trip.
Hotel that we stay: https://www.radissonhotels.com/fi-fi/hotellit/radisson-collection-tallinn
Room type: Collection Premium -huone - Näkymä vanhaankaupunkiin
We arrived and headed to the lunch in the Resto Mix restaurant. The food there was amazing!
From there we went to the old town square to see the Christmas markets which are on till the middle of January if you want that European Christmas feel.
Back at the hotel with the room tour and spa time. I have to say this hotel has the best spa in Tallinn that you can enjoy.
That evening we had a super unique medieval dinner at Pegasus with traditional meals and music.
